Jeremy Rashad Brown, a queer, Black, multidisciplinary creative and entrepreneur, has made Austin, TX his home. From a young age, he found refuge and personal discovery through art, shaping his lifelong mission to nurture community care through the power of storytelling and music. His career spans producing, directing, acting, and writing, and he shares his expertise as a guest lecturer and workshop leader at The University of Texas at Austin’s Drama & Theatre for Youth and Communities (DTYC) MFA program. Jeremy also performs as a storyteller with Paramount Theatre’s Story Wranglers and has appeared on esteemed stages like The Zach Theatre of Austin, TX (September 2023) and The Kennedy Performing Arts Center of D.C. (February 2024) in their collaborative production of A Girl Who Became Legend, an original youth musical by Sarah Saltwick.
In February 2019, Jeremy premiered Rap Unzel - A Story of Black Boy Joy & His Journey of Self-Care and Hair!, a groundbreaking hip-hop-inspired youth musical that garnered acclaim and numerous B. Iden Payne Award accolades. His impact expanded as he presented Rap Unzel at SXSW EDU in both 2023 and 2024, later introducing the play's expanded universe and initiative, Reggie Rap’s Room with Reggie Rap’s Self-Care Music Booth—an interactive, pop-up music studio promoting affirmations.
Reggie Rap’s Room is an ecosystem and initiative that aims to educate and elevate discussions on mental health and social and emotional development, intertwining Black and Brown hair care narratives with art, story, and music.
Jeremy is the visionary founder of Brown Boy Productions and Reggie Rap’s Room, and serves as board president at The VORTEX Repertory Theatre, advising ATX Theatre and leading as creative arts director at the Survive2Thrive Foundation. Through projects like Rap Unzel and Reggie Rap’s Room, Jeremy is committed to dismantling mental health stigmas, redefining masculinity, fostering identity exploration, and advocating for emotional expression and self-care, particularly within Black communities.
Beyond theatre, Jeremy remains deeply engaged in Austin’s Black, LGBTQ, spiritual, tech, theatre, and film communities, exploring intersections across these realms and beyond. His latest project, the web series adaptation of Rap Unzel and the ongoing evolution of Reggie Rap’s Room, continues his transformative mission to inspire and empower through art and narrative.
